is first team on your team?
First TEAM America, LLC is a regional technical assistance agency specializing in infrastructure development, strategic partnerships, and project management for both public and private entities.
For more than 30 years, we have partnered with communities to drive systems change by supporting strategic development initiatives across sectors.
Conceived in 1990 as Resources Plus, Inc., a resource development firm, First TEAM America has grown from its humble beginnings through decades of transformation to become a trailblazing entity specializing in health, education and justice consulting for public, private and faith partners.
What began as a volunteer "labor of love" by dedicated consultants serving nonprofit agencies in Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina evolved into a full-time commitment to advancing family and community well-being.
Recognizing the need to invest greater human capital, Managing Principal Danette McLaurin Glass made the pivotal decision to leave her corporate career and devote herself fully to this mission. From 1990 to 1999, Resources Plus secured two NEW contracts each year. Between 2000 and 2004, annual contracts multiplied significantly, reflecting the agency's growing reputation and impact. By 2009, First TEAM America was managing multiple regional contracts, expanding steadily to serve diverse partners and projects across the country—work it continues proudly today.
Our diverse team brings expertise from multiple disciplines—including development professionals, public health leaders, business executives, communications and public relations experts, community advocates, research scientists, licensed clinical social workers, educators, and community health workers—ensuring comprehensive, community-driven solutions.
Every engagement begins with a thoughtful, in-depth assessment to identify where your organization can grow and excel. Using these findings, we develop a customized tool "Game Plan" designed to directly support and advance your highest priorities.
Your First Team “Game Plan” includes a detailed project workplan that outlines clear timelines, milestones, and benchmarks to ensure measurable progress and sustained success.

The Brainasium™ is an immersive, interactive learning experience designed to bring the science of early brain development to life. Through engaging, hands-on activities and guided reflection, participants explore how relationships, environments, and early experiences shape the architecture of a child’s developing brain. The Brainasium translates complex neuroscience into practical understanding, helping parents, educators, healthcare professionals, and community leaders recognize how everyday interactions can either strengthen or disrupt healthy development.
Participants move through experiential stations that demonstrate how factors such as nurturing relationships, language exposure, stress, safety, nutrition, and play influence brain growth during the earliest years of life. By “seeing and feeling” how neural connections are formed, strengthened, or weakened, participants gain a deeper appreciation for the critical importance of early childhood environments and responsive caregiving.
The Brainasium™ is more than a learning activity—it is a call to action. By equipping individuals and communities with knowledge and practical strategies, the experience empowers participants to create safe, stable, and nurturing environments where children can thrive, families can flourish, and communities can grow stronger for generations to come.

Zone Safety America is a youth-led community safety and prevention initiative founded in 2001 by participants in First TEAM America’s STEM Program (The CHEM LABS of America). The initiative was born from the voices and lived experiences of more than 50 youth, ages 9–18, from The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta who were determined to confront the violence and trauma affecting their communities.
Many of these young people had firsthand exposure to tragic and preventable events. Some had been victims of gun violence, while others had witnessed stabbings, house fires, sexual assault, domestic violence, or serious accidents. Several had lost friends and neighbors to fires, traffic incidents, or other devastating circumstances. Rather than remain silent, these youth transformed their pain into purpose—committing themselves to creating safer environments for children, families, and neighborhoods.
With courage and determination, the youth organized and presented a community safety action plan to the late Atlanta City Councilman Ivory Young during a district Town Hall meeting. Their powerful testimony ignited a movement. In response, a coalition of public agencies and community partners quickly rallied around the youth to help bring their vision for safer communities to life.
Early partners included the Atlanta Police Department, Atlanta Fire Rescue Department, Atlanta Public Schools, Atlanta Workforce Development, Grady Health System, the Fulton County Juvenile Court, Emory University Rollins School of Public Health, Safe Kids America, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, and the Fulton County Board of Health. Together, these agencies worked alongside youth leaders to implement prevention education, leadership development, and community safety programs.
